Whoopi Goldberg is redefining modern dating norms with her candid and humorous take on relationships.
During Tuesday’s episode of The View, the EGOT-winning actress delved into the challenges women face in finding suitable partners and shared why she prefers to keep things casual.
“For me, I like a hit-and-run,” Goldberg quipped, eliciting laughter from the audience. “I am not interested in a committed relationship.”
Her comments were sparked by a recent article in The Atlantic discussing the difficulties many women face in today’s dating landscape. Goldberg, however, offered shan alternative perspective, encouraging people to lighten up when it comes to meeting potential partners.
“One of the things that makes me so sad is that people don’t know how to meet each other,” she said. “Forget how much money you’re making. We’re here at the bar. Let’s eat some chips, let’s eat one of these nasty potatoes, and see what’s going on.”
Goldberg’s advice struck a chord with the audience, who applauded her unfiltered wisdom. When co-host Sunny Hostin exclaimed, “Romance is dead?” Goldberg countered, “Perhaps you’re looking for things that are not in your lane.”
The Color Purple and Sister Act star emphasized the importance of realistic expectations, good communication, and focusing on mutual enjoyment. Her playful yet poignant commentary drew attention to broader societal dating struggles, including a statistic Hostin read aloud:
“While 61% of men are still actively looking for their partner, 38% of single women say, ‘I’m good, I’m good by myself.’”
Goldberg, who has been open about her decision not to remarry, capped off the conversation with her trademark humor.
“Don’t listen to me, because I don’t live with another human being,” she joked.
Goldberg’s refreshing honesty is a reminder that dating, at any stage of life, can be what you make of it.
