Teyana Taylor finally addressed the legal drama surrounding her 2024 divorce from ex-NBA player Iman Shumpert, sending shockwaves through her fanbase.
Teyana Taylor directly confronted reports that she filed a motion to hold Iman Shumpert in contempt of court, which could result in jail time.
“I never tried to send Iman to jail. I’m still not trying to send Iman to jail,” she asserted, clarifying that her legal actions were solely about setting boundaries. The A Thousand and One actress emphasized that her focus is on co-parenting their two daughters, Junie and Rue, without public drama. “However, I have to file a motion to get him to leave me alone so we can both live our lives in peace.”
The singer-actress revealed frustration over the timing of leaked divorce documents, which she believes Shumpert orchestrated to overshadow her professional wins. “I post my picture at the Oscars, and it does 1.4 million views. Then, the next day, here come these fake divorce settlements,” she said, referencing her recent appearance at the prestigious event with her new man, Aaron Pierre.
Teyana accused her ex of a pattern of “disrupting her success,” alleging that negative headlines about their split consistently emerge during her career milestones. “That’s the part y’all don’t see. Every time I have something going on, there’s another story about this sealed divorce,” she added.
Firing back at critics who labeled her a “gold-digger,” Teyana laid out receipts of her financial independence.
“Let’s get this gold-digger s*** out the way,” she said. “Every single car that I walked away with, I literally paid for out of my pocket. I bought my tour bus with my hard-earned money. I bought my Maybach after Iman crashed my Rolls Royce and never replaced it. Let’s be very clear, I left with what I came with.”
While Teyana Taylor acknowledged Shumpert as family, saying, “He’s the father of my children, and that’s never going to change.” She dismissed the myth of their fairytale romance. “People only saw the highlights,” she said, alluding to the couple’s once-vaunted #RelationshipGoals status.
