Nicki Minaj has once again sparked intense discussions with her comments about transgender children and allowing boys to be boys.

Nicki Minaj made a surprise visit to AmericaFest in Arizona, hosted by Turning Point USA, marking the group’s first major event since the passing of founder Charlie Kirk. On stage with Kirk’s widow, Erika, Minaj opened up about faith, politics, and resilience, addressing what she believes young people urgently need to hear.

But it was her comment, “Be boys. Be boys. It’s okay. There’s nothing wrong with being a boy. Boys will be boys,” that really sent shockwaves through social media. This remark ignited a firestorm of reactions online, especially as the nation continues to grapple with issues surrounding gender identity and transgender youth. Critics felt she was echoing sentiments that undermine the experiences of transgender individuals. Yet many supporters applauded her for being straightforward about masculinity and childhood, even when those conversations can often feel muted or ignored.

Her appearance itself raised some eyebrows. Historically, Nicki Minaj hasn’t aligned herself too closely with any specific political group, but during this event, she made her stance clear. She praised former President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance, calling them “role models” for young boys, while she took a jab at California Governor Gavin Newsom, labeling him “Newscum” in her remarks.

Nicki Minaj’s comments didn’t come out of the blue. Recently, she has been vocal in her disagreements with Newsom, particularly regarding his support for transgender children. Newsom, who has marketed himself as a strong advocate for LGBTQ rights, recently expressed in a New York Times interview his intention to “see trans kids,” highlighting his record of supporting pro-trans legislation and his personal connection through a trans godson.

Nicki Minaj wasted no time responding on social media, questioning Newsom’s position and accusing him of overlooking concerns raised by medical experts. She pointed to a peer-reviewed report from November by the Department of Health and Human Services, which outlined potential long-term risks connected with puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgical procedures for minors.

While opinions among healthcare professionals are divided, Nicki Minaj frames her stance as a protective measure for children rather than a mere political stance.
