Kandi Burruss is opening up about her divorce from Todd Tucker, and the conversation turned emotional fast. During a recent interview with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the former The Real Housewives of Atlanta star admitted she still hasn’t fully healed from the end of their marriage, nearly a year after filing for divorce.
Kandi and Todd’s relationship played out publicly for years in front of Bravo viewers. Fans watched the couple fall in love, get married, welcome their son Ace in 2016, and later expand their family with daughter Blaze in 2019 through surrogacy. Their marriage became one of the most recognizable relationships tied to The Real Housewives of Atlanta franchise, which made news of their split even more surprising to longtime viewers.
Now, after more than 11 years of marriage and around 15 years together overall, Kandi says the emotional weight of the breakup is still very real.
During the interview, Kandi became visibly emotional when the topic shifted to healing. Trying to lighten the mood, she laughed and said, “Don’t make me cry. Where’s my tissue?”
As she wiped away tears, she admitted that navigating divorce has been difficult. “How does anybody navigate [divorce]?” she asked before taking a moment to compose herself.
The interview touched on the challenges that followed the split, including a custody battle involving their two children. Kandi previously requested that details surrounding the divorce remain sealed in court in an effort to protect their family’s privacy, especially their children.
Despite trying to stay focused on work and positivity, Kandi acknowledged that the emotions still surface unexpectedly. “I stay busy,” she said while blotting tears. “Just give me a second.”
Once she regained her composure, Kandi reflected on the reality of ending such a long relationship. “I mean, if y’all ain’t heard, I got divorced recently. After 12 years of marriage… We were together, like, 15 years,” she explained.
The conversation also touched on her upcoming one-woman show, I Do, I Don’t, where she reportedly discusses infidelity issues within marriage. When asked how she’s been able to heal from everything, Kandi answered honestly.
“I don’t think I will,” she said with a laugh. “It’s been less than a year … I’m not healed.”
She also admitted that she intentionally avoids talking too much about the divorce because of how emotional it makes her feel. “I try not to talk about [the divorce], cause I don’t like to be emotional, I don’t like to be sad,” Kandi shared. “I like to lean into the positive [and] the fun.”
Even with the heartbreak still fresh, Kandi’s honesty during the interview struck a chord with fans who have followed her relationship journey from the very beginning.
