Angel Reese is making headlines once again, this time by stepping into the world of professional sports ownership.
As reported by The Athletic, Reese has joined the ownership group of DC Power Football Club, Washington, DC’s new professional women’s soccer team set to compete in the USL Super League starting in the summer 2024.
“I want to help grow women’s sports and elevate female athletes across the board,” Reese said in a statement. “We’re taking over, and I’m honored to be able to support Power FC and invest in women’s soccer in the DMV community.”
D.C. United CEO and Co-Chairman Jason Levien praised Reese’s involvement, calling it groundbreaking.
“As a Maryland native, Angel is so passionate about being a catalyst for positive change in women’s sports in the DMV as well as globally, while inspiring the next generation of female athletes. We’re looking forward to her partnership in the boardroom as an equity partner,” Levien said.
Reese, a native of Randallstown, MD, near Baltimore, has deep ties to the DMV area, which includes Washington, DC, and parts of Maryland and Virginia.
This latest venture shows her commitment to the region and to advancing women’s sports.
“So grateful & blessed for this new ownership,” Reese wrote in a caption via X, formerly known as Twitter. “Looking forward to creating new opportunities for women in professional soccer. I’ve always had [a] desire to invest in a local team as a Maryland native!”
This announcement comes on the heels of Reese’s graduation from Louisiana State University (LSU) in 2024, where she gained national recognition by helping lead the LSU Lady Tigers to an NCAA Division I title.
Known as the “Bayou Barbie,” Reese became one of the highest-earning college athletes during her time at LSU.
In April 2024, Reese entered the WNBA Draft and was selected as the seventh overall pick by the Chicago Sky, marking another significant milestone in her athletic career.
While specific details of her ownership stake in DC Power Football Club have not been disclosed, Reese’s influence continues to expand as she seizes every opportunity to make an impact in sports and beyond.
