Aoki Lee Simmons, the 22-year-old daughter of fashion mogul Kimora Lee Simmons, is stepping back from her modeling career following a public breakup with 65-year-old Vittorio Assaf, founder of Serafina Restaurant Group.

Aoki took to social media to share her struggles in the modeling industry, revealing that criticism of her appearance has made it difficult for her to thrive.

In a candid video posted on Oct. 11, Aoki expressed her frustration, stating:

“I love modeling, but it’s hard to go somewhere and get told over and over, no, you’re not pretty enough.”

Despite making history as one of the youngest Black women to graduate from Harvard University, Aoki feels the pressure of comparison to her mother’s successful modeling career, saying:

“It feels like one big fat comparison all the time.”

Aoki plans to transition to a career more aligned with her degree in international relations, stating:

“I think I’m going to end up switching back to working in government.”

She mentioned preparing for the foreign service exam while still giving her best in modeling.

“You should finish out strong and finish out with respect to the job and the industry that you chose to be involved in,” she added.

Recently, Aoki attended a casting for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show but announced she would not be walking this year.

“I’m happy for everybody who did,” she said, sharing her support for other models.

The breakup with Assaf has also contributed to Aoki’s decision to reevaluate her career path.

Their relationship drew significant media attention due to their age difference, which many compared to her parents’ notable age-gap romance. In the wake of public scrutiny, Aoki openly stated she was single and focused on her career and personal growth.

Throughout her life, Aoki has been vocal about the insecurities that come from being in the shadow of her mother and sister, Ming Lee Simmons.

At just 15, she shared her struggle with self-esteem, noting the negative comments she received about her looks compared to her family.

Aoki’s journey reflects the ongoing challenges young women face in the beauty and fashion industries, navigating personal expectations and external pressures.
