An Atlanta woman who was a key suspect in the death of a man in 2019 has been arrested and charged with murder, the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday.

Police say, Neworker Hurt, 45, was involved in the disappearance of Shawn Jackson, whose wife filed a missing person report in July 2019. According to legal documents, Jackson was caught cheating on Hurt and was involved in a fight with his mistress in front of her house “all day [and] through the night, according to an Atlanta News First report.

At the time, deputies said that Jackson’s son, Nicholas Jackson, told detectives that by nightfall both women appeared to go their separate ways and his father had left home in the middle of the night. It would be the last time he saw his father. One month later, Shawn’s remains were found in a shallow grave in Alabama.

Investigators later found that Hurt shot Jackson three times in the head. She has been charged with malice murder, possession of a weapon during a crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, tampering with evidence and concealing the death.

Police were able to identify the victim by his fingerprints, clothing and tattoos. Before police identified Hurt as the suspect, they say Hurt contacted her brother to help her dispose of his body.

Hurt was taken into custody without incident and is currently being held in Clayton County Jail.

Shortly before her arrest was announced, her ex-husband was on a podcast revealing that when they were both younger, he had gotten into an argument with the suspect while he was holding their infant child. He said that she then proceeded to pull out a gun and attempted to shoot him – the bullet missed him by inches and grazed the forehead of their child. He would later file for divorce.
