In a progressive turn of events, Birthing Beautiful Communities (BBC), a Black women-led doula organization based in Northeast Ohio, has been awarded a staggering $2 million donation from MacKenzie Scott’s Yield Giving initiative.

This generous contribution marks a pivotal moment for BBC, enabling them to expand their vital services to supporting Black mothers, babies, and families.

Founded over a decade ago, BBC has been steadfast in its mission to provide holistic care to Black families during the perinatal period.

Their free services include perinatal support doula services, childbirth and parenting workshops, transportation assistance, and postpartum support, among others.

Annually, BBC serves over 700 new and expectant mothers and families, offering them the care and support they deserve.

Upon receiving the transformative gift from MacKenzie Scott’s Yield Giving Open Call, Jazmin Long, President and CEO of BBC, expressed profound gratitude and excitement.

“We’re overjoyed and deeply grateful for this transformative gift,” Long shared. “This generous support propels Birthing Beautiful Communities into an exciting new chapter, empowering us to amplify our impact and further our mission.”

With the substantial funding from Scott’s initiative, BBC is poised to expand its reach and enhance its services. Among their plans is the establishment of a new birth center, scheduled to break ground in the fall of 2024.

This milestone development will enable BBC to provide even more comprehensive care to Black mothers and families in Northeast Ohio and beyond.

Scott’s donation not only acknowledges the invaluable work of BBC but also underscores the importance of supporting organizations that focus on addressing disparities in maternal health care, particularly within Black communities.
