Kelly Rowland is said to have confronted Nelly before his recent performance at Donald Trump’s inauguration event.
The iconic collaboration between Kelly Rowland and Nelly, “Dilemma,” has captivated fans for over two decades, but the hit song reportedly became the center of a behind-the-scenes drama involving Donald Trump’s inauguration ball.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, Kelly Rowland allegedly intervened to prevent Nelly from performing their 2002 duet at the politically charged event.
The controversy began when Nelly decided to take the stage at President Donald Trump’s inaugural celebration. Unfortunately, the Black community was not impressed with the decision and subsequently took to their social media pages to drag both the rapper and his wife, Ashanti.
During a live-streamed conversation with fellow rapper Willie D on Sunday, Nelly defended his decision to perform at US President Donald Trump’s inauguration, saying it is “an honor for me to perform for the president of the United States, regardless of who is in office.”
According to Nelly, he was “not political” or “trying to tell anybody who they should vote for” by agreeing to perform at a Trump event.
“This is not me telling you, ‘Yo, you should vote for this candidate.’ I think you should do your homework and figure out what best helps you and the people who you love and you provide for because I’m clueless on a lot of things when it gets down to it,” he said.
“But what I will say is that I respect the office. This isn’t politics. The politics, for me, is over. He (Trump) won! He’s the president. He’s the commander in chief of what I would like to say is the best country in the world … It is an honor for me to perform for the president of the United States, regardless of who is in office.”
However, sources close to the situation claimed Kelly Rowland was “stunned” and deeply disappointed upon learning about his decision. Allegedly, she took immediate action to ensure Dilemma would not be part of the evening’s performance.
Insiders revealed that Kelly and her team warned Nelly against performing the Grammy-winning track without her consent. Reportedly, they even threatened to issue a legal takedown notice if he went ahead with the song, which has long been associated with the duo’s undeniable chemistry and mutual success.
‘Kelly has blocked Nelly from performing Dilemma at the inauguration to stand in solidarity with her Presidential choice Kamala Harris,’ an insider said.
The source continued, “She was stunned when she learned that Nelly was to perform and informed his camp that he does not have her consent to perform the song. Her team is absolutely prepared to issue a takedown notice if he defies her order.”
“She doesn’t want any song of hers to be performed at a Trump inauguration.”
