Kimberly Seals Allers, the visionary founder of Irth—the groundbreaking app revolutionizing Black maternal and pediatric care—has announced the launch of the Crown Rewards program.
The innovative program is aimed at empowering parents while advancing equity in healthcare.
The Crown Rewards program enables Irth users to earn “coins” by sharing reviews of their maternity and pediatric care experiences. These coins can be redeemed for cash or exclusive discounts on essential family products and services from brand partners.
“Since Irth’s inception, our mission has been to elevate the voices of Black and brown parents and use their experiences to hold healthcare systems accountable,” said Seals Allers in a press statement.
Seals Allers also serves as Executive Director of Narrative Nation, a Black woman-led nonprofit focused on advancing birth equity.
“Crown Rewards brings this mission full circle by giving real value to our users for sharing their feedback and helping others find safe and equitable care,” she added.
Irth: A First-of-Its-Kind Platform
Irth, which stands for “birth” minus the “B” for bias, functions as a “Yelp” for Black and brown parents navigating the healthcare system. Users can rate and review their experiences with prenatal, maternity, and pediatric care providers. This feedback is anonymized and transformed into actionable insights through the Birth Without Bias (BWB) Quality Improvement Program, which partners with hospitals to implement equity-focused strategies.
With Black women in the U.S. being three to four times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes—over 80% of which are preventable, according to the CDC—Irth serves as a vital tool in combating systemic bias and racism in care. The BWB Program is already being implemented in eight health systems across six states, providing hospitals with strategies to deliver more respectful, equitable care.
Revolutionizing Healthcare with Blockchain Technology
The Crown Rewards program is powered by a secure blockchain-based wallet through a partnership with Veritaseum, a leader in decentralized software. This technology enables direct, peer-to-peer payments to users for sharing their data.
“Our patented, zero-trust value transfer technology ensures that users directly benefit from their data,” said Reggie Middleton, founder of Veritaseum. “Irth is a perfect example of how technology can save lives and empower communities without corporate gatekeepers.”
Narrative Nation, the nonprofit behind Irth, is the first organization to license Veritaseum’s U.S. Patent 11196566 for peer-to-peer value transfers. This partnership is a groundbreaking example of how emerging technologies can address racial disparities and disrupt extractive data practices that have long harmed communities of color.
Introducing the Irth Marketplace
In conjunction with Crown Rewards, Narrative Nation has launched the Irth Marketplace, a social impact initiative where corporate partners can offer discounted or free goods and services to Irth users. This initiative prioritizes brands that focus on maternal health and family wellness, directly supporting Black and brown birthing families.
“Through the Irth Marketplace, we’re not just addressing disparities in healthcare—we’re actively investing in the well-being of families,” Seals Allers added.
A Movement for Birth Equity
Since its launch, Irth has become a leading force in addressing racial disparities in maternal and infant health. By leveraging technology, community feedback, and corporate partnerships, Irth is transforming how healthcare systems serve Black and brown families.
