Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is pushing back against a judge’s decision to dismiss several charges in the racketeering case against former President Donald Trump.
Following Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee’s ruling in March to dismiss six charges due to lack of detail, Willis has filed an appeal without specifying reasons for the reversal.
As reported by Fox News on May 23, Willis’s appeal challenges the dismissal, especially concerning three counts directly involving Trump.
Initially, the indictment comprised 41 counts against Trump and his co-defendants, as per Newsweek.
Simultaneously, Trump’s legal team seeks Willis’s removal from the case, citing her alleged “improper” relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade.
Although Judge McAfee deemed this relationship non-compromising to the trial’s integrity, a Georgia appeals court will review the matter.
Wade has since resigned from the case.
This legal tussle unfolds amidst Willis’s significant victory in the recent primary election, where she secured a decisive win over her Democratic challenger.
Reaffirming her dedication to justice in her victory speech, Willis asserted:
“There is no one above the law in this country. Nor is there anyone beneath it.”
