Muni Long had a monumental night at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards, walking away with her second Grammy win for Best R&B Performance for her heartfelt ballad Made for Me (Live on BET). As one of the most-nominated R&B artists of the evening, expectations were high when she took the stage to deliver a live rendition of the song during the pre-show.

However, her performance quickly became a topic of debate across social media, as a momentary vocal break sparked mixed reactions from fans and critics alike.

Dressed in a sleek, elegant ensemble, Muni Long graced the stage with poise and confidence, delivering an emotionally charged performance of Made for Me. Her signature smooth vocals and raw passion were on full display—until she reached a high note that faltered slightly, leading to immediate online chatter.

Some fans questioned whether the singer had properly rehearsed for the moment. In contrast, others rushed to her defense, stressing the fact that Muni Long has been open about her battle with lupus. Some also pointed out that despite the slight vocal break, she still delivered a powerful performance that connected deeply with the audience.

In December 2024, Muni Long shared a health update on X after revealing the year before that she was diagnosed with lupus. She feels that hiding her condition has worsened her lupus disease.

“So apparently, I’m autistic, and my free self is the version of me that I began repressing at the age of 22 because it made people highly uncomfortable,” she said. “It started first with me doing insane amounts of drugs, and then when that didn’t work, I just held it in, which led to lupus.

“And now the lupus has gotten to a point where it’s effectively impossible to contain. In order to free myself from the rollercoaster that is an autoimmune disease, I have to let my emotions, thoughts, and feelings out….But….Autism! OMG, WTF? THIS IS SO WACK. But at least knowing I am autistic explains SO MUCH,” she concluded.

Beyond the performance debate, the evening represented a critical turning point for Muni Long.

By winning Best R&B Performance, she secured her position as a two-time Grammy Award recipient, reinforcing her influence in modern R&B. Additionally, Muni Long’s album Revenge received nominations in several categories.
