Grieving Mom Demands Justice After Son Found Dead in Car During Traffic Stop

by Gee NY

A Douglasville mother is demanding answers and justice after her 21-year-old son, Malachi Mitchell, was found dead in a vehicle during a traffic stop in late January.

Kenya Mitchell says she was notified nearly 48 hours after her son’s death and claims the driver admitted to shooting Malachi—yet no charges have been filed.

According to Kenya Mitchell, Malachi left their home around 11:30 p.m. on Jan. 29 without informing his family.

She later learned that her son had agreed to meet the driver to sell him a gun. Early the next morning, Mitchell used her son’s iPhone location to track him to an area near I-20 and Thornton Road. When she arrived, she encountered three deputies but did not see her son.

“I went straight to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office,” Mitchell told 11 Alive. “And the first question they continued to ask me was, ‘How did you know to come to the location?’”

Deputies later confirmed that Malachi was the individual found dead in the back of a vehicle they had pulled over. The driver was questioned but released, leaving Mitchell and her family searching for answers.

A Mother’s Outrage

Kenya Mitchell is outraged that the driver has not been charged, despite allegedly admitting to shooting her son.

“There’s nowhere on God’s green earth that anyone can be reckless driving, running through red lights, and have a deceased body in the car and walk away,” she said.

Mitchell is now pleading with the driver to come forward.

“Do the right thing. Have some integrity about yourself!” she urged.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is conducting an autopsy to determine the exact cause of Malachi’s death. The case remains under review, and no further details have been released by authorities.

Community Calls for Justice

Malachi’s death has left his family and community heartbroken and demanding accountability.

“The perpetrator who shot my son, who admitted to shooting my son, is at home with his family,” she said. “I want answers, and I want justice for Malachi.”

Kenya Mitchell has vowed to fight for justice for her son.
