Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign announced a significant fundraising milestone, raising over $200 million in its first week.
This surge follows President Biden’s decision to exit the race and endorse Harris, prompting widespread Democratic Party support for her campaign.
The campaign, which disclosed the total on Sunday, highlighted that 66% of the contributions came from first-time donors, reflecting strong grassroots support.
Additionally, over 170,000 new volunteers joined the campaign since Biden’s announcement, signaling robust volunteer engagement.
“Vice President Harris has been a candidate for less than a week, but she’s already coalesced the entire Democratic Party around her campaign and the organic, grassroots enthusiasm is producing results,” stated Michael Tyler, the campaign’s communications director, in a memo.
The impressive fundraising achievement comes on the heels of the campaign’s announcement of raising more than $100 million the day after Biden’s withdrawal.
Following this, Harris secured endorsements from numerous prominent party members, including many who were considered potential presidential contenders.
She also garnered support from the majority of the party’s 4,000 pledged delegates, establishing her as the presumptive nominee.
Harris attended her first major fundraiser as the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee on Saturday in Pittsfield, Massachusetts.
Speaking to over 800 attendees, predominantly Democratic donors, the event raised $1.4 million, surpassing the initial target of $400,000. This fundraiser was part of a “weekend of action,” marking 100 days until election day.
The campaign also announced that Harris is in the process of selecting a running mate. The campaign manager described the selection process as “thorough,” with a shortlist of roughly a dozen Democrats under consideration.
Among the names being vetted are Governors Andy Beshear (Kentucky), Gretchen Whitmer (Michigan), Roy Cooper (North Carolina), J.B. Pritzker (Illinois), Josh Shapiro (Pennsylvania), Tim Walz (Minnesota), and Senator Mark Kelly (Arizona).
Harris’ campaign continues to gain momentum with strong financial backing, volunteer support, and key endorsements, positioning her as a formidable candidate for the upcoming presidential election.
