Rap star Sexyy Red is embroiled in a shocking legal battle after her child’s grandmother, Nicole Barnes, filed a $5 million lawsuit accusing the rapper of directing her massive fanbase to attack her family.
The suit, filed in Missouri on March 24, alleges that the “Pound Town” artist shared Barnes’ home address online and encouraged followers to “kick in the door” and harm its occupants, a claim that has left the family traumatized and displaced.
According to court documents, Barnes claims Sexyy Red, 26, used her social media platforms to incite attacks against her Hazelwood, Missouri, home in early 2024.
Legal documents submitted on Monday reveal that Nicole Barnes alleges that Sexyy disclosed her address while urging her extensive social media audience in December 2024 to “kick in the door” of her residence and inflict harm on her and her family.
The grandmother, who shares custody of Sexyy Red’s child, says she was forced to flee her residence after receiving threats and now struggles to find affordable housing. Barnes also alleges she suffers from severe emotional distress. And because of the mounting stress, Barnes says she now attends therapy sessions and is fearing for her safety.
“Sexxy Red and her baby daddy are getting into beefs, for whatever reason, that have nothing to do with my client,” Barnes’ lawyer, Steven Weaver, informed the St. Louis Post-Dispatch on Tuesday.
“We did try to informally resolve it, and her attorneys thought it was a joke. And now they’re finding out it’s not,” he added. Weaver stated that his client reported to the police when Red allegedly made the post and has since had to move away from her home in Hazelwood, Mo., for her safety.
The lawsuit paints a grim picture of the fallout: Barnes claims she lives in constant fear, while Sexyy Red’s alleged actions “recklessly endangered” her family’s safety.
The St. Louis native, known for her viral anthems like “SkeeYee” and unapologetically raw lyricism, has built her brand on chaotic, larger-than-life energy. However, she is mom to two children, a son born in 2020 and a daughter, whom she gave birth to in February 2024. Although not much is known about the fathers of her children.
