Summer Walker Clears Up Reports She Signed ‘Brutal’ Record Deal: ‘It Is Not Current’

Summer Walker took to social media to clear up rumors that she inked a “brutal” record deal with her former label.

Last week, Rolling Stone published an article hailing Walker’s talents. However, the article also published details from Walker’s alleged contract — stating that the singer was “effectively an indentured servant for a series of albums.”

LVRN and Interscope Records were annihilated for offering the “lopsided” deal to the songstress. The outlet also claimed that the “Ex for a Reason” performer allegedly earned a 15% royalty fee for her music and an $85,000 advance. Walker allegedly handed over all of the rights to her masters.

Walker shot down the claims.

“I’ve been seeing a lot of chatter online,” she wrote.

“I didn’t say anything because I wanted to stay focused on releasing my album. Now let me clear the air. What that article said is not my current record deal. Over the years my deal has changed many times. I’ve always had my own representation and full support from LVRN. Thank you to my fans for always having my back and for all of the love ya’ll keep showing my new album. Appreciate y’all!!”

Last week, Walker released her “Still Over It crushed” album. According to a press release, the album is Apple Music’s biggest debut for an R&B album and any album by a woman-identified artist.

The album is projected to rack up on-demand audio streams of 225-250 million. It is on track to reach the top spot in the Billboard 200 album charts. The 20-track project boasts features from Ari Lennox, JT from City Girls, SZA, Lil Durk and Cardi B.

“Take this opportunity to learn from my mistakes. You don’t have to guess if something is love. Love is shown through actions. Stop making excuses for people who don’t show up for you,” she told Apple Music. “Don’t ignore the red flags. And don’t think you have to stay somewhere ’cause you can’t find better—you can and you will. Don’t settle for less—you don’t deserve it and neither does your family.”
