Whoopi Goldberg found herself in the middle of a fiery debate on The View after President Joe Biden pardoned his son, Hunter Biden, over federal gun and tax charges.
On the December 4 episode of “The View,” Charlamagne Tha God found himself in a tense debate with co-host Whoopi Goldberg.
The discussion ignited when Charlamagne made a bold claim that President Joe Biden had deceived the public regarding the pardoning of his son, Hunter Biden, who faced felony charges for gun and tax violations.
The passionate exchange had viewers on the edge of their seats!
Goldberg defended the president’s decision, comparing it to other presidential pardons and questioning why critics were “freaking out” over this instance. She emphasized that presidents have historically exercised their pardon powers, dismissing the backlash as political pearl-clutching.
“I think that all of the criticism is valid,’ Charlamagne said of the heat Biden has taken for breaking a repeated promise. “Democrats stand on this moral high ground all the time, and, you know, they act so self-righteous. The reality is, he didn’t have to say anything about whether or not his son wanted to be pardoned.”
Joe Biden pardoned his son on Sunday. The president had previously vowed to withhold such clemency from his own family.
Charlamagne Tha God continued, “He could have said, ‘Hey, man, I’m not focused on that right now.’ But since they were calling Trump a threat to democracy and saying nobody is above the law, but they were speaking about him, that’s what they were running on, so when he kept saying things like… ‘Nobody is above the law, I respect the jury’s decision in regards to my son.’ He didn’t believe that. But he didn’t have to volunteer that lie to begin with.”
“I’m gonna stop you for a second. Only because you don’t know that it was a lie,” Whoopi Goldberg told Charlamagne.
Charlamagne asked, “You really think he just changed his mind over Thanksgiving weekend, all of the sudden?”
Goldberg responded, “We don’t know why he changed his mind. I’m gonna tell you what I think. I think he changed his mind because he got sick of watching everybody else get over. At some point, you get to the place where you just go, so I’m just going to follow the straight-and-narrow always because that’s what’s expected of Democrats.”
Charlamagne pushed back and said, “That’s their fault,” because they positioned themselves on a moral high ground by repeatedly asserting that no one is above the law.
After more discussion, Charlamagne asked, “Why can’t you say when Democrats are wrong?” He also questioned why Republicans are unable to admit when their party is in the wrong.
Whoopi Goldberg stated she would inform him when she believes Democrats are mistaken, to which he responded, “So you don’t believe Joe Biden was in the wrong?” Both Goldberg and co-host Sunny Hostin expressed that they did not think the president had made any mistakes with his actions.
“Well, that’s ridiculous,” Charlamagne said before Goldberg added, “You’re ridiculous.”
The two commentators finally embraced each other before tensions escalated further.
