Woman Launches Website To Empower Black-Owned Businesses Amid Retail Rollbacks And Contract Cuts

by Gee NY

As major retailers scale back shelf space for Black-owned products and public-sector opportunities grow increasingly scarce, serial entrepreneur Pamela Chance is leading a bold economic pivot.

She has launched SpadesLife.com—a culturally-driven online marketplace designed to empower and elevate Black-owned businesses.

“The doors to mainstream retail may be closing, but we’ve built a new table where Black businesses are not just seen, but celebrated,” said Chance, Founder of SpadesLife Marketplace, in a press statement.

The SpadesLife Marketplace is a digital platform that connects buyers directly with Black-owned product and service providers.

The launch comes at a critical time, as the economic ripple effects of shrinking government contracts and big-box retailer pullbacks threaten to sideline thousands of Black entrepreneurs.

A Movement Rooted in Strategy, Culture, and Ownership

Named after the culturally significant card game Spades, the platform pays homage to a uniquely Black American tradition that emphasizes strategy, trust, and teamwork—the same values SpadesLife intends to channel into the business world.

SpadesLife’s mission is to circulate dollars within Black communities, increase visibility for underrepresented brands, and move more Black-owned enterprises from solo ventures to employer status. With an estimated 3.7 million Black-owned businesses in the U.S.—but only 2% employing paid staff—Chance sees a major opportunity to reshape Black entrepreneurship at scale.

The Founding 500: A Launchpad for Early Adopters

Through its Founding 500 initiative, SpadesLife is offering premium placement and marketing incentives for the first 500 vendors who sign up and list their businesses on the platform.

These early adopters will benefit from:

Chance says this is more than just a marketplace—it’s a movement toward economic independence, cultural ownership, and community-centered commerce.

“Black culture is one of America’s greatest exports, but for too long, the originators have been left out of the profits,” said Chance. “SpadesLife is here to change that.”

Direct-to-Consumer, Without the Middleman

Unlike traditional platforms, SpadesLife eliminates middlemen, giving sellers full control over their brand, pricing, and customer relationships. It also targets buyers who are intentionally seeking to support authentic Black-owned brands and services, creating a cultural economy built on shared values and mutual uplift.

Vendors and service providers can register now at SpadesLife.com to secure early access and become part of the platform that is redefining what it means to shop Black, build Black, and grow Black.
