Wanda Durant, affectionately known as “Mama Durant” and mother to NBA star Kevin Durant, is set to deliver the commencement address at Bowie State University’s spring ceremony on May 24.

Ms. Durant, a passionate advocate for empowering youth, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds, is renowned for her work through the Durant Family Charitable Foundation.

The foundation supports educational, athletic, and social programs aimed at equipping young people with the skills they need to succeed.

As a dynamic speaker, Ms. Durant has captivated audiences across diverse platforms, including corporations, non-profits, colleges, and youth organizations.

Her speeches, characterized by messages of hope, resilience, and the transformative power of belief, have earned her acclaim from prestigious organizations such as J.P. Morgan Chase, The Ford Foundation, Thomson Reuters, and Brown Brother Harriman.

Beyond her speaking engagements, Ms. Durant’s philanthropic efforts extend to financial literacy initiatives for disadvantaged women, as she serves on the Board of Tigress Financial Partners.

In a testament to her dedication to Bowie State University, Ms. Durant’s foundation made a substantial investment in 2022. The $500,000 contribution funded the renovation of the basketball arena within the Leonidas S. James Physical Education complex, enhancing facilities for both athletes and spectators.

As we look forward to Ms. Durant’s address and celebrate the accomplishments of Bowie State University’s Class of 2024, we recognize her unwavering commitment to empowering future generations. Congratulations to Mama Durant and the graduating seniors!
