Crystal Renay Smith, Neyo’s ex-wife has disclosed she wouldn’t have married the singer-songwriter if she had known about his polyamorous lifestyle.
In an interview resurfacing after Ne-Yo publicly discussed his polyamorous relationships, sheds light on her perspective and the challenges in their marriage.
In a Jan. 2023 interview on “The Culture Club Uncensored” with Osei the Dark Secret, Smith expressed her unfamiliarity with polyamory.
“I don’t understand the culture,” she admitted, though she stated that if polyamory brings happiness, she supports it.
Despite this, Smith revealed that Ne-Yo had never mentioned a desire for multiple partners before their marriage, stating:
“I wouldn’t have been married if that was [the case], because that’s just not my get down.”
Smith’s comments come in the wake of Ne-Yo being spotted with two women in South Beach, Miami, shortly after their divorce was finalized. The videos of Ne-Yo partying with these women stirred public interest in their relationship dynamics.
Impact on Smith’s Views on Marriage
Smith, who ended her marriage with Ne-Yo in 2021 following revelations of infidelity, admitted that the experience was deeply painful but does not regret their time together.
Despite their split, she cherishes their three children and acknowledges their “real” love during their marriage.
Now focusing on her personal life, Smith has been rumored to be dating rapper Maino, though she remains cautious about marriage.
In her “Uncensored” interview, she revealed that marriage now scares her, explaining:

“I could be loyal if I love a person… but sticking it out for the person or the kids never works.”
In an Aug. 21 interview with TMZ, Ne-Yo elaborated on his dating preferences, noting there’s “no specific cap” on how many women he would date simultaneously, explaining that it depends on “who I vibe with and who vibes with me.”
