In a heartfelt Instagram Story shared this week, the model and reality star announced that she and Grammy-winning songwriter Derrick Milano have officially ended their engagement. The two had been engaged since October 2023, when Milano proposed in a viral onstage moment during Howard University’s homecoming celebration in D.C.
But now, it seems God had other plans.
“After much prayer and reflection, Derrick and I have decided to call off the engagement,” Angela wrote in the post. “We love each other deeply and are good friends, but we both believe that God’s guidance has shown us that this is the right path for both of us, as we each continue our journeys. May we find peace and fulfillment in His divine will, trusting that His plan is greater than our own.”
Fans who had been rooting for the couple since they went public in September 2022 were caught off guard. From sweet Instagram posts to matching energy in interviews, Angela and Derrick seemed to be building a quiet but strong love story. They even referred to themselves as a “power couple” in a joint statement to PEOPLE last year.
The engagement was one for the culture. Milano, whose real name is Derrick Gray, got down on one knee in front of a roaring Yardfest crowd, serenading Angela with Mario’s “Let Me Love You.” It was romantic, grand, and personal, especially as it happened in White’s hometown of Washington, D.C.
