Sarah Jakes Roberts and son-in-law, Touré Roberts, are the new senior pastors of The Potter’s House, the Dallas megachurch. The emotional transition comes just months after T.D. Jakes suffered a scary heart attack mid-sermon.

On a historic Sunday morning, Bishop T.D. Jakes passed the pastoral mantle of The Potter’s House in Dallas to his daughter, Sarah Jakes Roberts, and her husband, Touré Roberts, officially installing them as co-senior pastors of the megachurch he founded nearly 30 years ago.

The transition, celebrated during the church’s 29th anniversary service, marks a significant and emotional milestone not only for the Jakes family but for the tens of thousands of members who have called The Potter’s House home since 1996.

The move comes just months after Bishop Jakes suffered a massive heart attack while preaching during a morning service in November 2024, a moment that shocked the congregation and was captured live on video.

“I cannot afford, especially after November, to risk something happening to me, and you be sheep without a shepherd,” Jakes shared in a vulnerable moment earlier this year, making it clear that the time to prepare for the future had arrived.

Sarah Jakes Roberts, already a beloved voice among women of faith and known for her “Woman Evolve” movement, has long been a rising leader in the Christian world. Her husband, Touré Roberts, a pastor and author in his own right, brings years of ministry experience to the pulpit. Together, they’ve already been serving as assistant pastors at The Potter’s House since 2023.

Now, they’re stepping fully into the role of senior leadership, bringing with them a modern, spiritually bold, and culturally relevant vision for the next generation of believers.

While stepping down from day-to-day pastoral duties, Bishop Jakes isn’t disappearing, far from it. He’ll continue to serve as Chairman of the Board and spiritual overseer of The Potter’s House. He’ll still preach and mentor, and he’s also expanding his footprint with podcast shows through a new iHeartMedia partnership and ongoing work with his business ventures under the T.D. Jakes Group.

Congratulations to the Roberts family. The next chapter of this ministry just began, and it’s already looking anointed.
