Authorities confirmed that the 21-year-old singer, d4vd, was taken into custody on suspicion of Celeste Rivas Hernandez’s murder.
He is currently being held without bail, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Officials said the case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, where prosecutors will review the evidence to determine whether to file formal charges.
The investigation traces back to 2024, when Celeste Rivas Hernandez, a young teenager from Lake Elsinore, California, was reported missing by her family. She was a seventh-grade student at the time. Months later, on September 8, her remains were discovered in a 2023 Tesla Model Y that had been towed from an upscale neighborhood in the Hollywood Hills. The vehicle, which appeared to have been abandoned, was registered in d4vd’s name at a Texas address linked to his family.
Court documents show that investigators located the remains inside bags in the trunk of the vehicle after it was moved to a tow yard. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office later took custody of the remains. Authorities have not publicly disclosed a cause of death.
In the months that followed, the case was quietly investigated, including a grand jury probe that examined the circumstances surrounding Celeste’s death. The existence of that investigation became public in February when d4vd’s family members challenged subpoenas requiring them to testify.
d4vd was arrested shortly after 4:30 p.m. at a residence in the Hollywood Hills, police said. Following the arrest, his legal team released a statement denying the allegations. Attorneys Blair Berk, Marilyn Bednarski, and Regina Peter said their client intends to fight the case, maintaining that the evidence will show he was not responsible for Celeste’s death. They also noted that no indictment has been returned and no criminal complaint has been formally filed.
As the case moves forward, prosecutors are expected to review the findings presented by investigators and determine the next legal steps. The investigation remains active as authorities continue working to establish the full sequence of events surrounding Celeste Rivas Hernandez’s death.
