Stephen Curry’s wife, Ayesha Curry, and mother, Sonya Curry, were involved in a tense encounter with French police following the US men’s basketball team’s gold medal win at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The incident became more serious when authorities denied her immediate departure with her infant child.

Videos circulating on social media captured the tense moment when Ayesha visibly broke down in tears while surrounded by officers.

The situation became worse when Steph Curry’s Golden State Warriors teammate Draymond Green alleged that the baby was struck in the head during the incident, saying, “So even after y’all hit the baby in the head, there’s still nothing y’all can do to get them out of here?”

Ayesha was captured wiping tears from her face as her mother-in-law spoke to officers on the street who were allegedly preventing the family from returning to their vehicle.

Sonya then encourages Ayesha to join her as she attempts to push past the police and reach the group’s vehicle.

“It’s right there, where all those people are on that side; we were over there,” Sonya tells the police. “They won’t let us go back over there where we came from. They won’t let the driver come here, and they won’t let us go back over there.”

While it is unclear what happened during the altercation, Sonya can be heard yelling that someone “touched the baby” amid the confusion.

However, the French authorities did not appear moved by their pleas, maintaining their stance that the family had to stay put.

A man who came over to translate for the police is then heard apologizing on behalf of an officer, saying, “Sorry about the baby.”

As the camera pans out to the streetscape, police barricades can be seen in every direction, and additional law enforcement officials surround the area.

Steph Curry was a key factor in Team USA’s victory over France, which earned him, LeBron James, and the other stars gold medals. The two-time NBA MVP went off in the final moments of a close game, hitting four three-pointers when the United States desperately needed them.

The heartwarming moment was shared on social media. Footage from the court showed Stephen jogging over before jumping up and down excitedly with his son Canon, 6, and kissing Ayesha and their newborn.
