Fantasia Barrino, the beloved actress and American Idol alum, returned triumphantly to her hometown of High Point, North Carolina, over Juneteenth weekend.

The Celebrating Juneteenth Welcome Home Celebration honored the award-winning R&B singer, who brought an extra dose of pride by representing her sorority, Sigma Gamma Rho.

During the event, Fantasia showed off her sorority spirit by performing one of Sigma Gamma Rho’s signature strolls and rocking a pair of stylish blue and white Nikes.

“Now I had on heels, but I figured that was too cute to come home. So I put on my blue and whites for my SGRhos,” she said in a video shared by HBCU Pulse.

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., founded on November 12, 1922, at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana, by seven visionary educators, has a rich history and a strong presence.

It is distinguished as the only sorority in the National Pan-Hellenic Council not founded at Howard University and the only one established at a predominantly white institution.

With over 100,000 members and more than 500 chapters worldwide, Sigma Gamma Rho continues to make significant domestic and international contributions.

Fantasia was named an honorary member of Sigma Gamma Rho in November 2022.

In a heartfelt video marking her induction, she expressed how much the sisterhood means to her.

“I’ve been through a lot,” she shared. “[I] got a testimony. God gave it to me all over again. I’ve always wanted to be a part of a sisterhood. I thought I wanted to be a part until I met y’all. Like I love what you support and I love what you do and I won’t disappoint you I promise.”

Fantasia Barrino-Taylor skyrocketed to fame after winning the third season of American Idol, captivating audiences worldwide with her powerful voice and undeniable talent.

Following her 2004 win, her debut album “Free Yourself” achieved platinum status, paving the way for a string of hit albums and singles, along with numerous Grammy nominations and awards.

Beyond her musical achievements, Fantasia has made a mark in the acting world, with standout performances on Broadway in “The Color Purple” and appearances on TV shows like “American Dreams” and “Empire.”

Her recent role as Celie Harris-Johnson in the 2023 film adaptation of “The Color Purple” garnered critical acclaim, further solidifying her versatile talent.
