Texas Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett is no stranger to controversy, and her latest appearance on the podcast Outlaws with T.S. Madison has triggered a firestorm of backlash — including a torrent of racially charged comments from far-right critics.

In a candid and unapologetically bold interview, Crockett accused Republicans of perpetuating the same oppressive mindset that once justified slavery and segregation.

“At the end of the day, I know that there was a time and a place, and if they could, they would throw me back in chains,” said Crockett, a freshman Democrat representing Dallas. “Somehow, those that came before us managed to break loose of the physical chains, even though we still have a bunch of systemic chains that we are still kind of wrangling with.”

Her remarks — made during a broader discussion on race, power, and policymaking — ignited immediate outrage from MAGA-aligned conservatives online, many of whom flooded social media with angry, often racist attacks.

“This lady is a disgrace,” one X (formerly Twitter) user posted. A race hustler and a total pos…”

Several critics also took to historical revisionism, falsely claiming that Republicans were responsible for freeing enslaved Black Americans while Democrats maintained power over hate groups like the Ku Klux Klan — a narrative long weaponized by the far right to deflect from present-day policies and behavior.

This isn’t the first time Crockett has clashed publicly with GOP figures. In February, she called former President Donald Trump a “white supremacist” backed by “other white supremacists” after the appointment of a former speechwriter with ties to white nationalist circles.

“I am tired of the white tears,” Crockett said during a separate interview earlier this year. “When you look and you compare me to Marjorie Taylor Greene or Lauren Boebert, there is no comparison. And that is the life that we have always lived.”

The freshman congresswoman’s raw honesty and refusal to back down has earned her a loyal following on the political left — and fierce opposition from the right. While some of her more colorful remarks, such as referring to Texas Governor Greg Abbott as “Gov. Hot Wheels,” have drawn bipartisan criticism, Crockett has never shied away from expressing herself boldly.

She also claims that some Republicans privately express admiration for her, though she remains skeptical of their sincerity.

Still, her words have struck a nerve. In one of the podcast’s most talked-about moments, Crockett contextualized the GOP’s treatment of her as part of a longer American pattern of racial violence and resistance.

“They also had this justification as if we were different, as if we didn’t all bleed the same and we weren’t the same,” Crockett said. “So, as the attacks seem new, they really are tired and old… I can recognize the hate no matter if we’re talking about in the ’50s or if we’re talking about in 2025.”

Despite the vitriol, Crockett remains undeterred.

“We’ve persevered past them,” she concluded. “And I truly believe that… this losing season for the haters — I think that we will again be able to transgress and show that we are great, we are normal. We are actually — if anything — we got superpowers, as far as I’m concerned.”

Crockett’s polarizing presence continues to stir debate in a political landscape already rife with division — and as the 2024 election cycle intensifies, her voice appears set to grow louder.

Whether viewed as a courageous truth-teller or a partisan firebrand, Jasmine Crockett is not backing down.
