Imani Nia Robinson’s ‘3 Blind Mice’ Goes Viral For Its Honest Portrayal of Experiences Faced By Black Women

A new web series filmed in Baltimore is gaining national attention for its honest portrayal of identity, belonging, and the challenges faced by young Black women.

“Three Blind Mice” follows the journey of Naeemah, a young Black woman adopted by a white couple in Massachusetts who moves to Baltimore to attend a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in search of her identity.

The project is the brainchild of Imani Nia Robinson, who plays Naeemah and the series’ writer and director.

“Three Blind Mice is about identity. It’s about finding yourself, it’s about belonging, it’s about tackling different subjects like prejudice, colorism, coming of age, and family dynamics,” Robinson said.

Viral Success and Festival Recognition

Robinson posted the trailer on TikTok and released the pilot episode on YouTube three weeks ago, where both quickly racked up hundreds of thousands of views.

The pilot, originally filmed two years ago, has since traveled the film festival circuit worldwide, winning awards and solidifying its reputation as a powerful, independent Black-led project.

“I just feel so happy. I feel so fulfilled. I feel like I’m on the right path,” Robinson told WMAR 2 News. “It feels good to be affirmed in my art and my creativity, and especially to have Baltimore support.”

A Story Rooted in Baltimore

For actor Anthony Holland Jr., who plays Damon, the series is also a love letter to his hometown.

“Born and raised here my whole life… when people talk about the bad things about Baltimore, they don’t see the good things. This project shows the charm of the city,” he said.

Holland added that future episodes will dive deeper into the lives of each character, giving audiences more perspective on their struggles and resilience.

What’s Next for the Series

Despite not yet having a network deal, Robinson confirmed that the team is moving forward with production. “With or without a network behind us, me and mom are self-producing the rest of the season,” she said, noting that seven more episodes are planned.

The response so far suggests audiences are eager for more. “We’ve gotten the love from TikTok. We’ve gotten the love from YouTube. But ultimately, it just feels like the world is ready for us,” Robinson said.

With its themes of identity, family, and perseverance—and its celebration of Baltimore—Three Blind Mice is poised to continue sparking conversation as it expands into a full season.
