Issa Rae has dropped the trailer to her new HBO Max series, “Sweet Life: Los Angeles.”

The unscripted series shows the city of L.A. through the eyes of seven young, driven Black friends as they navigate through all of life’s obstacles, “showcasing their relatable, authentic and sometimes stumbling mid-20s moments as they embrace the joy and struggles of love and family, while building their careers as tastemakers and influencers in the city where they grew up.”

So, here’s the story according to Entertainment Weekly: Cheryl Des Vignes and Jerrold Smith II, a fashion designer and marketing specialist, respectively, are high school sweethearts. They are trying to figure out their relationship while simultaneously trying to elevate their respective career paths.

Viewers also follow the story of streetwear brand owner Jordan Bentley and his base, Briana Jones, a medical account specialist who also has a side hustle as a skincare entrepreneur. They have an on-off-again relationship.

Music manager P’Jae Compton, event planner Tylynn Burns, and publicist Amanda Scott are also part of the crew.

“We are thrilled to partner with Issa Rae on this fun, dynamic series about a real group of friends and their unique, yet intertwined experiences in South Los Angeles, which has a one-of-a-kind culture that deserves a spotlight all its own,” said Jennifer O’Connell, executive vice president, Non-Fiction and Live-Action Family, HBO Max in May.

“We’re so proud to present a grounded and fun slice of young Black LA life,” added Rae. We hope the HBO Max audience will relate to and fall in love with this group of friends as much as we have.”

Issa broke fans’ hearts when she announced that the fifth season would be the final season of her hit show, “Insecure.” But it seems “Sweet Life” might be just the cure.

“Sweet Life: Los Angeles” premieres on Thursday, Aug. 19. HBO Max will premiere the first three episodes — with three more episodes airing each week for a fortnight.

A reunion special launches on Sept. 9.
