Detroit Voltage, a certified Woman Business Enterprise (WBE) led by CEO Deana Neely, has recently finalized a significant contract worth $100,000 with DTE Energy, marking a remarkable achievement for the company.

Deana Neely, a Detroit native, ventured into the electrical industry inspired by her ex-husband’s profession as an electrician.

In 2016, she founded Detroit Voltage, specializing in residential and commercial electrical services, including installation, repair, remodeling, and renovation.

Additionally, the company offers electric vehicle charging station installations and supplies LED lighting to businesses nationwide.

Neely’s journey into entrepreneurship was influenced by her prior experience working for the city of Detroit, where she gained insights into contract work and partnerships.

“I worked in local government for over a decade, and while working in [the] Buildings and Safety Department for the city of Detroit, I had an opportunity to work with contractors, and so I learned both sides of the counter never really thinking that I would be a contractor,” she said in an interview with CBS Detroit. “I ended up marrying an electrician. The relationship didn’t work, but the company was birthed from that, and so here we are.”

Despite her marriage ending in divorce, it led to the inception of Detroit Voltage, which has since become a prominent player in the electrical contracting sector.

Reflecting on her roots in “The Motor City,” Neely emphasizes her commitment to serving her community, recognizing the need for reliable services in overlooked areas.

She attributes part of her success to the support and mentorship she received from organizations like the Great Lakes Women’s Business Council, where she found a supportive network of like-minded women entrepreneurs.

As Detroit Voltage celebrates this milestone, Neely remains grateful for the relationships forged and looks forward to further growth and opportunities to serve her community through her thriving business.
