Mary J. Blige is facing a $5 million lawsuit from her former stylist and longtime friend, Misa Hylton. It appears that things have become seriously complicated behind the scenes in the music industry.

According to a bombshell report from AllHipHop, Mary J. Blige just got hit with a lawsuit from Misa Hylton.

The legal tea? Misa Hylton is accusing Mary J. Blige of sabotaging her business over rapper Vado, who was signed to MJB’s label, Beautiful Life Productions, but managed by Misa’s company, M.I.S.A Management. The lawsuit claims MJB used her influence to wreck Misa’s deal behind the scenes. Allegedly, MJB refused to release Vado’s completed album and blocked him from touring unless he dropped Misa as his manager.

She alleges that MJB worked on Vado privately, excluding her from yacht parties, hotel meetings, and exclusive events while plotting to take full control of his career.

According to the lawsuit, Mary J Blige’s actions were calculated to isolate him and slide him into a new, Misa-free management deal.

Court documents obtained by AllHipHop reveal that Misa claims MJB’s business, Beautiful Life Productions, obstructed the management agreement she had with Vado, which entitles her agency to 20% of the rapper’s income.

But here’s where it goes full-on industry thriller: MJB’s head of security, described in the lawsuit as her boyfriend, allegedly tried to get Vado to sign with him instead. Misa says this “boyfriend” pressured Vado to agree without legal representation and warned him that staying loyal to Misa would be a career killer and “lose out on opportunities.”

And the threats didn’t stop there.

Misa claims MJB herself told Vado point blank that if he didn’t cut ties with M.I.S.A. Management, his album would stay in the vault, and no tour dates would see the light of day.

Misa Hylton contends that MJB’s decision to shelve Vado’s album has placed the artist in a state of “economic servitude,” rendering him unable to repay the advances associated with his recording contract or earn any significant income for himself. The lawsuit is pursuing $5 million in damages for breach of contract, emotional distress, and disruption of business relationships.

Vado entered into a contract with M.I.S.A Management on July 25, 2023, and subsequently signed with Beautiful Life Productions on October 1, 2023.
