by Gee NY

Spelman College has officially crowned Taylor Mills as Miss Spelman 2025, marking the 42nd queen to hold the title at the prestigious all-women’s HBCU.

Mills, a junior student, was selected among seven contestants during a competitive and inspiring pageant held April 12 at Spelman’s historic Sisters Chapel in Atlanta, Georgia.

In her new role, Mills becomes a key student ambassador, symbolizing Spelman’s core values of academic excellence, ethical leadership, and a commitment to positive social change.

“I’m very grateful. I’m very honored. I did this not only for myself but for my institution, and I am excited to get to work and to showcase who we are as the number one HBCU,” Mills told Channel 2 Action News after her crowning moment.

A Campaign Built on Authenticity

Mills ran her campaign under the empowering motto “Authentically Blue,” which resonated deeply across campus and online. Her social media campaign gained widespread attention on TikTok, where her genuine, relatable posts showcased her multifaceted personality and strong campus ties.

Spelman praised her viral content in a press release:

“Her social media persona is a true reflection of who she is—real, relatable, and raw. As she first made it onto the Spelman campus, her content immediately resonated with students, and her journey since then has only deepened her roots within the sisterhood of Spelman.”

In addition to digital outreach, Mills performed a compelling African dance as part of her pageant campaign, which the college said “struck a chord with many, illustrating the strength and grace that she possesses as a leader.”

A Vision for Representation and Inclusion

As Miss Spelman, Mills plans to leverage her platform to inspire students by highlighting the diversity and richness of the Spelman experience.

“By authentically showcasing my journey and celebrating all sides of a Spelman Woman—be it academic, artistic, or personal—I hope to inspire others to embrace their full selves,” she shared on Instagram. “Spelman women are not a monolith, and it’s time for us to fully celebrate the dynamic layers that make us who we are.”

Mills’s win comes at a time when representation and inclusivity are being reimagined across higher education institutions.

Her vision of leadership through authenticity is already making waves beyond the college’s gates, reinforcing why Spelman continues to be recognized as one of the nation’s leading historically Black colleges and universities.
