The tight-knit community of Carrol Drive is reeling after the tragic death of 25-year-old Keyirra Tatyana Walker, a beloved young mother who was found shot dead inside her home on Monday morning, May 13, 2024.
Despite extensive efforts by law enforcement, no arrests have been made in connection with her murder.
Described by neighbors as a kind-hearted and outgoing individual, Walker was known for her loving nature and devotion to her children. Russell Williams, a neighbor who lived across the street, fondly remembered Walker as “a sweet, outgoing young lady, always outside playing with her kids.”
Her untimely death has left the community in shock and disbelief.
Walker, who had recently graduated from the Central Carolina Technical College’s nursing program, had aspirations of furthering her education and pursuing a brighter future.
Her cousin, Hakeem Drayton, expressed the family’s determination to support Walker’s children, Chastity and Tyler, in the wake of their mother’s tragic passing.
Sumter Coroner Robbie Baker confirmed that Walker, who was pregnant at the time of her death, was found deceased in her bedroom from multiple gunshot wounds.
He offered his condolences to her family and acknowledged the devastating impact of her loss on her loved ones.
Sumter police, who responded to the scene following a call from family members, have indicated that there were no signs of forced entry into Walker’s home.
Investigators believe that the perpetrator may have been someone known and trusted by Walker.
Russell Williams echoed the community’s sentiments, expressing hope that justice would be served for Walker and her family.
“Hopefully, we can find out who did it so we can get her family some closure,” he said.
In their ongoing investigation, Sumter police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
