“Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Cynthia Bailey has opened up about her experience with Ozempic, revealing that the popular weight-loss medication wasn’t the right fit for her.
When it comes to weight loss, Cynthia Bailey is all about staying true to herself. The Real Housewives of Atlanta star recently opened up about her brief experience with the popular injectable Type II diabetes drug, Ozempic, and why she ultimately decided it wasn’t the right path for her.
In an exclusive interview with E! News, the 57-year-old reality TV icon revealed she turned to Ozempic after struggling to shed a few extra pounds she gained last year.
“I don’t know if it was the stress of shooting season 16 of Housewives that had me eating everything that I could find and definitely drinking everything I could find,” Cynthia exclusively told E! News cohost Justin Sylvester. “I gained a lot of happy weight. I’ve been in a relationship for the past 10 months now, and I started not to be able to fit in my clothes anymore. I’m on the other side of menopause. It’s like a lot of reasons.”
Inspired by the dramatic transformations she’d seen in some of her friends, Cynthia gave the drug a shot—literally—but found herself quickly rethinking her decision.
“I did want to take the shot initially because all my friends look great on the shot without question,” the 57-year-old admitted. “I tried it for a month. Honestly, for me, it didn’t work because I still like food, and I found that I just had no interest in food.”
For Cynthia, the idea of skipping out on life’s culinary joys was a dealbreaker. The former supermodel shared that food has always been more than just sustenance—it’s been a source of comfort, joy, and connection. “Food is like something that I enjoy, and I just didn’t like the way it made me feel.”
Ozempic, although praised for its advantages in weight loss, has been associated with adverse effects that affect both physical and mental well-being. Bailey’s story shows how the medication led her to diminish her desire for many of her beloved meals.
After concluding that Ozempic wasn’t suitable for her, Bailey opted for a more adaptable and enduring weight loss method by choosing WeightWatchers. The points-based system has become increasingly popular, and the reality star has already noticed encouraging results.
In a recent Instagram video, she proudly shared her progress, “So it’s been two weeks since I announced that I’m starting my weight loss journey with WeightWatchers. Since joining, I’ve started noticing many changes, not just on the scale but in how my clothes fit.”
