The Real Housewives of Potomac Dr. Wendy Osefo has resigned from her role as Distinguished Visiting Professor at Wesleyan University after facing multiple fraud charges.

Recently, social media buzzed with claims that Wendy was fired due to these charges against her and her husband, Eddie Osefo, who are facing 16 counts of fraud. However, her representative clarified the situation, stating that Wendy decided to resign voluntarily before any official announcements from the university.

In a statement to PEOPLE, her rep said, “Contrary to recent media reports, Dr. Wendy Osefo was not terminated from a faculty position at Wesleyan University. She formally submitted her letter of resignation before any public announcement was made by the university.”

Wesleyan University confirmed her resignation, stating, “Wendy Osefo is no longer an employee of Wesleyan University. She resigned from her position.”

The couple’s legal issues have generated a lot of discussions since their arrest last week, with police reports showing that both Wendy and Eddie were booked on 16 fraud-related charges and later released. Although detailed information about the case remains under wraps, it has left many fans shocked, especially given Wendy’s reputation as the “educated one” on the show.

Before this situation, Wendy was thriving in her role at Wesleyan, where she created an innovative course titled Sociology of Reality TV in late 2024. This class fused pop culture and academic insights to examine the effects of reality television.

Many fans recall that Wendy left her position as an assistant professor at Johns Hopkins University during Season 9 of RHOP to focus on her family and her business ventures. At that time, it appeared she was embarking on an exciting new journey. Now, though, this latest news leaves her professional path looking uncertain.

Social media has been alive with opinions since the news broke. While some fans are rallying around her and advocating for understanding until all information is revealed, others have highlighted the irony of her situation, with one user quipping, “Not Dr. Wendy teaching about reality TV and now living in one!”

At this point, Wendy has not publicly addressed the fraud charges or her resignation.
