Sabrina Lamb Launches First Black Woman-Owned Investing App With Multilingual Financial Education

by Gee NY

Entrepreneur and author Sabrina Lamb has launched Wekeza, the first Black woman-owned global investing app offering multilingual financial education and access to U.S. stocks, starting with as little as $1.

Aimed at empowering the African Diaspora, Wekeza—Swahili for invest—delivers culturally relevant investment tools and guidance in seven languages: English, French, Swahili, Hausa, Wolof, Zulu, and Haitian Creole.

“We learn to invest better when education speaks our language and honors our culture,” said Lamb. “Wekeza connects deeply with the African Diaspora experience, breaking down barriers to generational wealth.”

Reimagining Wealth Access Across the Globe

Backed by Techstars, Wekeza allows individuals, families, schools, and communities to purchase fractional or whole shares of U.S. publicly traded companies. Users also receive access to certified financial professionals through the platform, reinforcing informed decision-making.

The app builds on Lamb’s legacy through WorldofMoney.org, her award-winning nonprofit that has educated over 50,000 youth worldwide in financial literacy.

Fritz Celestin, a Wekeza user from Brooklyn, New York, shared, “I never thought investing was an option for my family. But with Wekeza, we’re finally making confident financial decisions about our future together.”

Tackling the Racial Wealth Gap

According to the Federal Reserve’s 2022 Survey of Consumer Finances, the median net worth of Black households ($44,900) was less than 15% that of white households ($285,000).

Wekeza directly addresses this disparity by providing a tech-driven, culturally grounded financial toolkit.

Industry Recognition and Major Partnerships

Sabrina Lamb is no stranger to financial innovation. A NAACP Image Award-nominated author of Do I Look Like An ATM?, Lamb has testified before Congress, rung the NASDAQ opening bell, and was named a finalist in Pharrell Williams’ Black Ambition Prize.

Wekeza has forged key partnerships with Mastercard, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., and The Opportunity Project in Tulsa, Oklahoma, positioning itself as a leader in financial inclusion.

“We’re not just launching an app,” Lamb said. “We’re launching a movement rooted in ownership, empowerment, and cultural identity.”

Now Available for Download

The Wekeza app is now available on Google Play and the Apple App Store, providing a gateway to accessible investing and multigenerational wealth building.
