Skai Jackson, who’s keeping it 100 about her postpartum hair struggles. The 23-year-old actress recently opened up about shedding edges and clumps of hair after welcoming her son, Kasai, in January, and Black moms everywhere are nodding in solidarity.

In a recent video shared with fans, the 23-year-old opened up about how her edges have thinned out, and she’s now noticing more strands coming out every time she brushes her hair.

“Y’all know I lost my edges,” Skai began, pointing out that the filter she was using may have made things look worse, but the struggle is real. “I’m brushing my hair, and it seems like a lot of strands are coming out. I hope my hair is not falling out because of postpartum.”

The “Jessie” star, who gave birth to her first child, Kasai, back in January, sounded both vulnerable and curious as she asked her followers how long postpartum shedding usually lasts. “Maybe I should go to the doctor and see if I have a deficiency. It could be a vitamin D deficiency or something like that, to really pinpoint it,” she added.

Skai shocked fans last year when she announced her pregnancy in November, keeping things relatively quiet until then. But when she did step out, like at the Man in the White Van red carpet, she did it in full glam, proudly rocking her baby bump in a stunning brown form-fitting dress.

She later shared the arrival of baby Kasai with a simple but sweet Instagram post on January 26, showing his tiny hands in hers and a caption that read, “Kasai.”

The father of her child is Deondre Burgin, 21 years old. While their relationship had mostly been under wraps, it hasn’t been without controversy. Just a few months ago, Skai was granted a restraining order against Burgin after alleging he assaulted her on Mother’s Day, while she was holding their newborn. The incident left many of her fans rallying around her for support.

While Skai’s shedding might feel alarming, experts say it’s actually a very normal part of postpartum recovery. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, up to 90% of women experience some form of hair loss three to five months after giving birth. The culprit? Those shifting pregnancy hormones.
