Unfortunate! Young Woman Admits Murdering Cleveland State Professor

Terreionna Paschal, a 32-year-old Black woman, was sentenced to 23 years to life in prison for the tragic death of Cleveland State University professor Todd Morgan.

Paschal pleaded guilty to the charges, and on September 19, 2024, an Akron, Ohio, judge delivered the sentence, marking the end of a deeply emotional case.

The heartbreaking incident unfolded in April 2023 when authorities found Morgan’s body in his Hudson home following a welfare check.

He had been fatally shot multiple times in the head and torso. Paschal and Morgan had connected through dating apps, and on April 18, 2023, the day before the murder, Paschal searched online for Morgan’s profile and details about his home. This led to their ill-fated meeting the next day.

During the sentencing, the judge acknowledged the profound pain experienced by Morgan’s family, noting that no court decision could “make this better” for them. However, the judge commended Paschal for taking responsibility for her actions and sparing the family from the additional trauma of a trial.

“There would be images and things that you would have to see that you could never unsee,” the judge said, referencing the difficult evidence that would have been presented in court.

Paschal, addressing Morgan’s family directly, offered a heartfelt apology:

“To his family, I’m very sorry and hope that one day you can find it in your hearts to forgive me.”

Morgan’s mother delivered a powerful victim impact statement, describing her son’s love for teaching and his dedication to uplifting others through his work as an assistant professor at Cleveland State University’s Monte Ahuja College of Business.

Although clearly heartbroken, she refrained from harsh condemnation, instead expressing a desire for Paschal to find true repentance.

“I serve a God of love and a God of justice. What He wants is that you truly repent for this evil act you have committed. I sincerely hope you will find true forgiveness, and only Jesus gives it when we ask,” she said.

This case has raised conversations about the complex dynamics Black women face when caught in situations of deep conflict, pain, and tragedy.

While Paschal’s actions have resulted in an undeniable loss, her acceptance of responsibility brings some closure to a devastating event that has shaken both families and communities.

Paschal was initially indicted on several charges, including aggravated murder, tampering with evidence, and aggravated robbery.
