At just 19 years old, Dr. Dorothy Jean Tillman has added another historic milestone to an already extraordinary résumé.
The Chicago-born academic prodigy has officially become the youngest member ever inducted into the Delta Sigma Chicago Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., marking a first in the chapter’s nearly 100-year history.
Tillman was inducted on Nov. 1, 2025, as part of the chapter’s newest cohort, fittingly named the “14 Phases of RHOyalty.” While the group includes accomplished women across professions, Tillman’s achievement stands out for both her age and her academic journey.

Her path through higher education began at just 10 years old. By 17, she had earned her Ph.D. in Integrated Behavioral Health from Arizona State University, positioning her among the youngest doctoral degree holders in modern academic history.
Beyond her academic credentials, Tillman has built a national and international platform focused on youth empowerment and education. She is the founder of the Dorothy Jeanius STEAM Leadership Institute, which helps young people pursue careers across science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. A BLACK ENTERPRISE 40 Under 40 Honoree, Tillman is widely recognized for translating intellectual excellence into community impact.
Her work remains deeply rooted in Chicago, where she supports environmental education through the Space To Grow initiative, an outdoor learning and sustainability program benefiting local schools and neighborhoods. Internationally, she serves as a STEAM education advisor to the Akuapem people in Ghana, expanding her influence well beyond U.S. borders.
Through her guiding motto, “Leading by Examples of Excellence,” Tillman has positioned herself as both a scholar and a servant leader—values that closely align with Sigma Gamma Rho’s founding principles.
Founded in 1922 at Butler University, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. has more than a century-long legacy of promoting education, civic responsibility, and sisterhood. Tillman’s induction reflects not only her personal accomplishments but also the sorority’s ongoing commitment to nurturing leaders who uplift communities locally and globally.
As a public speaker, advocate, and Black woman in STEAM, Tillman says she hopes her latest achievement will inspire young women to pursue ambitious goals without limitation.
With this historic induction, Dr. Dorothy Jean Tillman continues to redefine what is possible and proving that age is no barrier to excellence, leadership, or legacy.
