Latasha Brooks, the founder of Coach Brooks Business Consulting, turned a pivotal moment in her life into a flourishing business that helps small businesses navigate the world of government contracting.
Reflecting on her journey, she shares how a forced ultimatum from her former employer led to a life-changing decision that put her family and freedom above corporate pressures.
“My boss forced me to choose between being a mother or putting his company first, and that ultimatum sparked a major change in my life. I chose my family and the freedom to build something on my own terms,” Brooks shared.
After leaving her corporate job as a mother of two and the wife of a retired marine, Brooks created her minority- and woman-owned firm in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Since then, she has dedicated herself to empowering clients, offering one-on-one coaching, and providing tailored guidance to secure government contracts, a vital source of opportunity for many small businesses.
“I’ve made it a personal mission to stand out in any room I enter,” Brooks says, particularly in a predominantly male-dominated field.
Her work involves mentoring entrepreneurs, guiding them through the complex process of submitting successful Requests for Proposals (RFPs), and helping them secure life-changing contracts with the government.
She also advocates for diversity and inclusion in the industry, recognizing the value of unique perspectives and approaches.
Through her experiences, Brooks has honed essential qualities that have fueled her success: resilience, effective communication, and continuous learning.
She credits her mentees for providing invaluable support throughout her journey, which has helped her stay on track and overcome challenges.
Her company’s mission goes beyond contracting; it’s about guiding entrepreneurs toward independence, confidence, and business success.
“I’m passionate about helping others navigate business ownership,” she says. “My personal experiences fuel this drive to make a difference, one client at a time.”
Latasha Brooks’ story proves that there is victory in choosing one’s own path, overcoming adversity, and helping others succeed while prioritizing family and personal fulfillment.
