A mother’s bold act of accountability has drawn praise from local law enforcement after she personally turned in her teenage son to police following an alleged assault at a local Walmart.
Norman Whitlock, a teen from Magee, is now facing charges after allegedly attacking a Walmart employee during a reported assault-in-progress at the retail store. When officers with the Magee Police Department arrived at the scene, the suspect had already fled. A search was quickly initiated to locate the individual responsible.
But it was Whitlock’s own mother who took action.
According to a statement from police, the mother contacted dispatch directly to say she was bringing her son in to answer for his actions. Authorities later confirmed that neither she nor her son had been contacted by law enforcement before her call.
“She did it on her own,” Magee Police wrote in a Facebook post. “That’s what a parent who holds their child accountable does.”
The department praised the mother’s decisive response, calling it an example of strong, responsible parenting in the face of a difficult situation.
Whitlock was taken into custody without incident and now faces charges related to the assault. Police say the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
The identity of the Walmart employee and the extent of their injuries have not been released at this time.
