Rapper Doechii is rap’s newest royal after making history by becoming the most nominated female rapper at the 2025 Grammy Awards. The Florida native is arguably the shining star in this year’s nominations, earning four nominations, most notably for Best New Artist.
Doechii’s animated delivery and sometimes-raw, sometimes-hilarious lyrics have identified her as “one to watch,” earning her well-deserved recognition from the music industry.
After a very busy 2023 — hitting No.1 on the Billboard charts for the first time, starring alongside Dominic Fike in an A24 film, opening for Beyoncé and two Amalie Arena concerts — the Tampa’s Swamp Princess received her first Grammy nominations.
The Recording Academy announced the complete list of nominees for the 67th annual Grammy Awards on Friday (November 8), revealing that Top Dawg Entertainment’s Doechii is nominated for four awards. The Florida rapper will compete in the Best New Artist category alongside Benson Boone, Sabrina Carpenter, Khruangbin, RAYE, Chappell Roan, Shaboozey, and Teddy Swims.
Doechii’s critically acclaimed album, Alligator Bites Never Heal, cemented her place as a strong rap artist. Alligator Bites Never Heal propelled her to be the second female rapper nominated for a best rap album since Cardi B’s Invasion of Privacy in 2020.
Doechii’s 2025 Grammy nominations include Best Rap Album – Alligator Bites Never Heal, Best Rap Performance – Nissan Altima, Best Remixed Recording – “Alter Ego” with JT and KAYTRANADA, and Best New Artist.
According to Doechii, her 19-track Alligator Bites Never Heal isn’t an album. She’s adamant about calling it a mixtape.
Speaking about the raw honesty depicted in her famous mixtape, Doechii revealed to Culted.com, saying, “Yes, everything that I talk about on the mixtape is a fact. Honesty is important because if you’re capping, then you’re not gonna be able to connect with people, and connection is so important for influence in hip-hop and music. Even more importantly, though, being honest in your music just makes you feel better. I think that’s the reason why I make music: just to kind of “unpack” things and get further within myself.”
Doechii released the critically acclaimed tape Alligator Bites Never Heal in August. Despite only reaching No. 117 on the Billboard 200 chart, the project, which features production from Childish Major, Kal Banx, Devin Malik, Monte Booker, and others, received high praise from music critics for its versatility.
