Cardi B and Tasha K Reach Settlement in Defamation Case: Tasha K Will Pay $1.2 Million Over 5 Years

by Gee NY

Cardi B has reached a bankruptcy settlement with blogger Tasha K, legally known as Latasha Kebe, marking a new chapter in their years-long legal battle.

According to a report by BET, under the terms of the agreement, Tasha K will pay Cardi B nearly $1.2 million in monthly installments over the next five years, as part of a Chapter 11 reorganization plan approved by a judge.

The payments will start at $176,532 in the first year and gradually increase to $318,653 by the fifth year.

The settlement represents a significant reduction from the original $4 million defamation judgment Cardi B won against Tasha K in 2022.

However, the “WAP” rapper retains the right to pursue the remaining balance once the five-year period concludes. In addition to the financial agreement, the settlement strictly prohibits Tasha K from making any “derogatory, disparaging, or defamatory” remarks about Cardi B or her family on any platform, including social media and podcasts.

The Lawsuit That Shook the Industry

The dispute between Cardi B and Tasha K began in 2019 when the blogger made a series of false and damaging claims about the rapper on her YouTube channel, “Unwine with Tasha K.”

The defamatory statements alleged that Cardi B engaged in illicit activities and had serious health conditions, claims that the Grammy-winning artist vehemently denied.

Cardi B subsequently filed a defamation lawsuit, arguing that Tasha K’s false allegations caused her severe emotional distress.

After a highly publicized trial, a jury sided with Cardi B in 2022, awarding her a $4 million judgment, which included punitive damages and legal fees. Despite the ruling, Tasha K initially refused to pay, even taunting Cardi B on social media. In 2023, she filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, claiming she was unable to fulfill the massive financial obligation.

The Road Ahead

While this settlement provides a structured payment plan, it does not absolve Tasha K of the entire debt. Cardi B’s legal team has ensured that the rapper can still seek the remaining balance after the five-year period ends.

More significantly, the agreement places strict restrictions on Tasha K’s public statements, preventing her from further damaging Cardi B’s reputation.

Cardi B, who has been vocal about protecting her name and standing against misinformation, has not publicly commented on the settlement. However, this outcome reinforces her stance on holding individuals accountable for spreading harmful falsehoods.

Tasha K, on the other hand, has yet to make a statement regarding the settlement terms. Whether she will attempt to rebuild her online presence while adhering to the court’s restrictions remains to be seen.

A Landmark Case in Celebrity Defamation

This case serves as a cautionary tale in the age of digital media, where misinformation can spread rapidly. Cardi B’s victory highlights the legal consequences of defamation and underscores the importance of fact-checking before making serious accusations against public figures.

As the settlement takes effect, the entertainment world will be watching to see if Tasha K complies with the agreement—and if Cardi B will ultimately recover the full amount owed.

For now, this legal battle appears to have reached a temporary resolution, but its impact on celebrity defamation lawsuits may be felt for years to come.
