Are A$AP Rocky and Rihanna secretly married? That’s the question stirring up the courtroom as the rapper, born Rakim Mayer, prepares to stand trial for a gun assault case.

A$AP Rocky’s assault trial took an unexpected turn when the judge inquired about his marital status with singer Rihanna.

The buzz started when Judge Mark S. Arnold asked if Rihanna, the global music icon and entrepreneur, should be referred to as Rocky’s wife. The rapper’s lawyer, Joe Tacopina, responded by calling her his “common-law wife,” implying that the couple has been living together as a married pair without an official ceremony.

“Just ‘wife’ is fine. However you’d like,” Tacopina added, fueling speculation about the true nature of their relationship. However, Deputy District Attorney John Lewin argued that Rihanna should only be referred to as Rocky’s wife if they’re legally married.

The judge agreed to revisit the matter, noting, “If they are legally married anywhere, she will be his wife. If they are not legally married anywhere, she is his significant other.”

The courtroom exchange has sent social media into a frenzy, with fans and media outlets dissecting every word. While the couple has never publicly announced a wedding, Rocky and Rihanna, who share two children, have been famously private about their relationship milestones.

While the relationship debate stole the spotlight, the real purpose of the hearing was to finalize plans for A$AP Rocky’s upcoming trial. The rapper faces two counts of first-degree assault with a firearm stemming from a 2021 altercation in Hollywood with his former friend, Terrell “Relli” Ephron.

Surveillance footage shows Rocky and Relli in a physical confrontation before moving to another location, where investigators allege Rocky fired shots. Although the actual shooting is only faintly visible in the footage, prosecutors have charged Rocky with serious crimes that could result in significant penalties.

The courtroom banter about common-law marriage highlights an evolving trend among Hollywood couples who are redefining traditional relationships.

While some fans are hoping for a secret wedding announcement, others are celebrating the idea that Rihanna and Rocky are living on their terms—whether legally married or not.
