Da’Vine Joy Randolph won her first Oscar at the 2024 Oscars. Check out the list of winners who went home after their emotional speeches.

Da’Vine Joy Randolph won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar on Sunday, March 10, for portraying the grieving mother Mary Lamb in the boarding school drama “The Holdovers.”

The star took Oscar home in a custom Louis Vuitton gown in a stunning shade of pale blue. The powdery, pastel dress had contrasting textures and several stunning details, such as a shimmering bodice, sheer skirt, boa-like sleeves, and a train trailed several feet behind her.

She finished the look with a wavy, blonde side part, sparkly drop earrings, and a glossy lip.

Da’Vine Joy Randolph delivered a passionate speech that had her fellow nominees getting teary.

She spoke about her career with such earnest devotion that she drew a few weepy faces from her competitors; Jodie Foster and America Ferrera could be seen welling up.

She began by recounting how she started as a singer before her mother, promising her something, persuaded her to attend the theater department.

Randolph thanked her mother, acting teacher, and even her publicist. But as she directed her appreciation toward specific people in her life, her speech acknowledged the rarity of an ascendance like hers; to win an Oscar after wondering if there was a future in acting for her as a curvy Black actress.

“For so long, I have always wanted to be different, and now I realize I just needed to be myself, and I thank you for seeing me,” the 37-year-old Yale School of Drama alumni said.
