The brutal kidnapping and murder of 20-year-old Mahogany Jackson, a young mother from Birmingham, Alabama, has left her family shattered and the community outraged.
On Feb. 25, 2024, Jackson sent a chilling message to her family: “I’ve been kidnapped. Send help. Don’t call.”
By the next morning, her body was discovered at an illegal dumping site in Birmingham. Jackson had been shot in the back of the head. Investigators revealed harrowing evidence of her abduction, torture, and forced sexual acts, some of which were recorded by the suspects and shared on social media.
A Crime That Shocked a City
Birmingham Police Homicide Detective Mark Green testified in court, detailing five videos recorded by the suspects that chronicled the violent ordeal. Prosecutors allege Jackson was lured under the pretense of socializing, only to be stripped, beaten, and subjected to relentless abuse. One video reportedly shows Jackson being savagely beaten while another suspect kicks her. A voice is heard commanding, “Put her in the trunk,” marking the start of her tragic final hours.
The abuse escalated at a second location, where Jackson was handcuffed, spat upon, and pistol-whipped.
Seven Arrested, Death Penalty Sought
The Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office secured arrest warrants for eight individuals connected to the crime. All suspects, ranging in age from 18 to 25, face charges including felony murder, kidnapping, and capital murder.
Prosecutors have announced their intent to seek the death penalty for all involved.
The suspects are:
- Giovonnie Clapp, 23
- Blair Green, 25
- Teja Lewis, 25
- Francis Harris, 25
- Si’nya McCall, 23
- Jeremiah McDowell, 18
- Brandon Pope, 24

A Family’s Heartbreak
Jackson’s mother, Gail Shearer, shared her devastation with local media. “You contributed to what ended up being my child being gone. She is gone, and she’s never coming back,” she said.
Shearer now faces the heartbreak of raising her granddaughter, who will grow up without her mother.
“When I have to play videos of my daughter for my granddaughter just so she can see her mom alive—that’s heartbreaking,” Shearer said. “My granddaughter will never know her mother, and I will never see my child again. It’s not right.”
Community Demands Justice
The case has sent shockwaves through Birmingham, highlighting the need for swift justice. Former Birmingham Police Chief Scott Thurmond condemned the suspects’ decision to document their actions, calling the case “deplorable and sickening.”
As the community mourns Jackson’s tragic loss, her family vows to fight for justice. “She was a mother, a daughter, and a light in our lives,” said Shearer. “We won’t rest until justice is served.”
Jackson’s death is a chilling reminder of the violence that continues to plague communities and the devastating impact it leaves on families. Her memory now fuels a quest for accountability and healing in the face of unimaginable tragedy.
