Lala Baptiste swears nothing happened with DDG in Mexico. But with leaked texts from DDG, a messy custody battle with Halle Bailey, and the internet’s obsession with drama, this story just won’t quit.
The ongoing, super messy custody battle between DDG and Halle Bailey just pulled another player into the ring, and now influencer Lala Baptiste is speaking out!
Lala says she understands why Halle believed she hooked up with DDG in Mexico. Still, she’s shutting down those rumors, insisting she and DDG are just friends and that she even spoke with Halle about it back then.
This whole new level of drama erupted after alleged text messages from Halle Bailey, shared by DDG in his legal filings, became public. One text in particular, from March 2024, revealed Halle Bailey allegedly wrote to DDG, with whom she shares baby Halo, “I just found out you slept with Lala in Mexico.” Naturally, everyone assumed the “Lala” in question was none other than influencer Lala Baptiste, who has been seen collaborating with DDG on content. These texts, along with alleged threats of self-harm from Halle, were made public as part of DDG’s request for a domestic violence restraining order against The Little Mermaid star.
(Side note: the court denied DDG’s efforts to prevent Halle and Halo from leaving the country as of Thursday, June 5.)
Lala Baptiste, who has previously made headlines in connection with Rubi Rose and Lil Tjay issues, addressed the accusations head-on in a recent clip. She insisted that her relationship with DDG, born Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., has always been strictly “platonic.” “The context behind these accusations, in general, is stemming from a group trip that our whole friend group went on,” Lala explained. She was quick to add that everyone who went on that outing can “confirm” that absolutely nothing untoward occurred.
“Everyone on this trip can confirm there was nothing weird going on,” she reiterated. “I wasn’t even staying near them. It was for someone’s birthday. Let’s start there. There was never anything sneaky going on. Like, me and Darryl’s relationship has always been strictly started off as business, obviously. If you know, you know”.
Lala further elaborated, “He put me on YouTube. Started off there, grew into a friendship, has always remained platonic. So it’s very unfortunate. Like, I know people already have this narrative because it’s just hard to believe that a guy and a girl can be friends. Like, it’s hard to believe that me and him or any other guy and girl can just strictly be platonic friends, okay? But nothing has ever gone on past that, ever”.
These cheating accusations stem from those leaked text messages dated March 21, 2024, where Halle, the 25-year-old singer and actress, allegedly confronted DDG about sleeping with Lala during the Mexico trip. The texts surfaced amid their incredibly heated custody battle over their 16-month-old son, Halo.
DDG recently filed for a restraining order against Halle, claiming she threatened self-harm and even attempted to drive with Halo while emotionally distressed on the very same day as those texts. He also accused her of emotional manipulation and even referenced a gun threat. However, Halle has countered with her serious allegations of physical abuse against DDG, which he denies.
