Simmons is no stranger to breaking barriers. In 2019, she became the first Black woman to graduate from Ranger School, proving that perseverance and rigorous preparation can defy expectations.

Now, with 14 years of service, she continues to shatter ceilings by advancing to the rank of Sergeant Major while holding one of the Army’s most coveted qualifications.

Notably, Simmons completed Ranger School without being recycled, a rare feat that underscores her elite capabilities.

Despite being denied the opportunity to attend Sapper School due to her rank, she has remained relentless in her pursuit of professional growth.

Simmons’ achievements come amid a deeply personal battle—she is currently undergoing treatment for stage four cancer while attending the Sergeants Major Academy.

Despite this unimaginable challenge, she continues to train, mentor, and inspire those around her.

Her approach to success is simple but powerful: outwork everyone.

She has consistently outperformed her peers, earning top honors at Air Assault School, Drill Sergeant School, and the Master Gunner Course, among others. Her work ethic, discipline, and resilience set her apart as a role model for soldiers across the ranks.

A Call for Recognition and Support

Simmons’s legacy is being written in real-time, and her impact will extend beyond her own career to future generations of soldiers.

Simmons remains humble, attributing her success to determination, preparation, and faith. She has consistently proven that the extra effort makes the difference between ordinary and extraordinary.

Her next mission? To continue leading, breaking barriers, and inspiring the next wave of Army leaders.
