Miami Woman Killed During Vacation in the Caribean After Encounter With Man Who Was Being Friendly

A dream birthday getaway turned into a devastating tragedy after a 29-year-old Miami woman was killed while vacationing in the Caribbean, leaving her family and community searching for answers.

Denisha Delancy, a Miami native described by loved ones as vibrant and full of life, had traveled to Sint Maarten with her sister and a friend in March to celebrate her sister’s birthday. The trip marked their first visit to the island, where they booked a private Airbnb and arranged transportation for their stay.

According to details shared by family and accounts of the incident, the group went out shortly after arriving, attending a day party before later visiting a nightclub known as the White Rabbit. There, they met a man identified as Quincy Damon Sylvester, who was described as friendly and accommodating throughout the night.

By the end of the evening, the group opted to forgo their hired driver and instead accepted a ride with Sylvester, who was staying nearby. While Delancy’s sister and friend returned to their accommodation, Delancy chose to continue socializing with him, with plans to spend more time together before reuniting later.

That reunion never happened.

When Delancy failed to return, her sister made repeated calls to her phone without success. Hours later, concern escalated when their driver reached out and informed them that the man they had been with had reportedly been found dead earlier that morning.

Authorities initially responded to what appeared to be a traffic accident involving Sylvester’s vehicle. However, further investigation revealed a far more serious situation. Both Sylvester and a female passenger—later identified as Delancy—were found unresponsive inside the car, but investigators determined that the crash itself was not the cause of death.

Police now believe the killings were the result of a targeted attack. Sylvester was reportedly under scrutiny for alleged ties to criminal activity, and investigators say surveillance footage showed unidentified individuals following him throughout the night prior to the incident. Authorities suspect those individuals carried out the attack after tracking his movements.

Delancy, officials believe, was an unintended victim—caught in a violent act aimed at someone else.

Her death has left her family in mourning and her community in shock. What began as a celebratory trip quickly turned into a nightmare that ended with her body being returned home to Miami.

Funeral services were held in early April. A visitation took place at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, followed by a celebration of life service at 93rd Street Community Baptist Church, where family and friends gathered to honor her memory.

Loved ones remember Delancy as someone who embraced life, loved to travel, and brought energy and joy to those around her. Her sudden death has also raised renewed concerns about safety while traveling abroad and the unpredictable risks that can arise.

As investigations continue in Sint Maarten, authorities have not announced any arrests in connection with the killings. Meanwhile, Delancy’s family is left grieving a life cut short—one that began as a joyful vacation and ended in tragedy.
