BET-featured entrepreneur and motivational speaker Shontel Greene captivated attendees as the keynote speaker for the “I-M-POSSIBLE” women’s event, hosted by the Greater Cleveland Chapter of the National Congress of Black Women (NCBW).
Greene’s transformative journey, from overcoming adversity to becoming a successful business owner, served as a beacon of hope and resilience for the audience.
Greene, whose life story was spotlighted in BET’s Trapped Queen in 2019, shared how she rose above a challenging childhood marked by parental addiction and her own involvement in street life.
“My life was difficult. My mother was on drugs, my father was on drugs, and I was on the streets,” she recounted. “I decided to turn my life around. If I can do it, anyone can do it.”
The event also featured Congresswoman Shontel Brown, Maple Heights Mayor Annette Blackwell, and HUBBS GROVE as speakers. Greene, however, took center stage with her inspiring message of vision, hope, and purpose.
A Journey of Redemption and Passion
Leaving her past behind, Greene pursued higher education and gained multiple degrees and certifications. She now owns several businesses in Baltimore, including Nurses R Us and Adult Day Care, which serve the senior community.
“This work is my passion,” Greene said, expressing her love for helping seniors.
Her message resonates deeply with young girls and women striving to overcome obstacles.
“That life was not the life I wanted. If I did it, you can also,” she stated.
Empowering Women of Color
The event was organized by the NCBW, a nonprofit dedicated to increasing the participation of women of color in educational, political, economic, and social spheres.
As a 501(c)(3) organization, the NCBW advocates for the appointment of women at all levels of government and empowers them to achieve their goals.
Shontel Greene’s speech highlighted the importance of perseverance and self-belief. Brown, the host of Cleveland’s Little Hut Podcast, praised Greene’s story.
“Her journey reminds us that anything is possible. Just because you were brought up in a negative light doesn’t mean you can’t shine in a positive one,” Brown said.
A Beacon of Hope
From the streets to owning successful businesses, Greene’s life story is a testament to the power of transformation.
Her keynote speech not only inspired attendees but also underscored the theme of the “I-M-POSSIBLE” event: that every woman can defy the odds and achieve greatness.
