Dr. Funke Afolabi-Brown, the Founder and CEO of The Restful Sleep Place, is breaking new ground as the leader of the first Black woman-owned sleep clinic in America.

Her clinic provides holistic and integrative sleep care for children from infancy to 18 years old through an innovative virtual practice.

Operating in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and California, Dr. Afolabi-Brown plans to extend her services nationwide within the coming year.

Her mission addresses a critical issue: 60% of children in the United States suffer from sleep deprivation, which is often linked to behavioral difficulties, learning delays, and frequent illnesses.

A board-certified pediatric pulmonologist and sleep medicine physician with over two decades of experience, Dr. Afolabi-Brown is dedicated to resolving sleep issues one family at a time.

“Sleep deprivation doesn’t just affect the individual; it impacts the entire family unit,” she explains in a press release published by Black News. “When a child is sleep deprived, their physical, mental, and emotional health suffers. Parents are often physically and mentally exhausted themselves. That is why our approach is family-centered.”

Through her clinic, she provides personalized, patient-centered, integrative care to families compared to the rushed 20-30 minute appointments offered at traditional hospitals.

This innovative approach is why Dr Funke Afolabi-Brown, a triple board-certified physician, is a sought-after speaker and sleep expert on various platforms including The Wall Street Journal, Abc News and Baby Center, the world’s largest digital parenting resource.

Jackie Williams from Los Angeles, a mother of 2 boys under 10, struggled to get her children to sleep for months. She said:

“I felt like I was in survival mode, all the days were blurred and I was completely exhausted all the time. We now have a solid routine and are getting the boys down for 10-11 hours each night, which is unheard of! Working with Dr. Afolabi-Brown was a game changer for our entire family.”

Dr. Afolabi-Brown completed her Pediatric Pulmonology fellowship at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, followed by a Sleep Medicine fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

She has expertise in a range of pediatric sleep disorders including chronic insomnia, behavioral sleep issues, sleep disordered breathing, restless legs syndrome, narcolepsy and sleep issues in children with underlying conditions such as mental health disorders, autism, and ADHD.

She is on a mission to help parents and their children prioritize sleep to achieve their optimal health and live to their fullest potential.
